The Quick and Easy Way to Clean Your Dishwasher With No Chemicals

Dishwashers are an amazing invention. Mine broke down once and it really made me appreciate it more when I got a new one. They are such time savers! What many people overlook is that, while they clean your dishes, they also need to be cleaned. That’s right - you need to actually clean your dishwasher! Here’s the quick and easy way to clean your dishwasher with no chemicals:

1. Clean Under The Door

Your dishwasher has a little hidden ledge where the door closes. It never gets hit by the water and so, can get pretty gunky. Give it a good wipe down before you get started. It may take a few wipe downs, but it’s worth it!

2. Make the Outside Nice and Shiny

You want the outside of your dishwasher to look as nice as the inside! Use your favorite degreaser followed by your favorite window cleaner to get it nice and clean. We love using a vinegar and water spray for both of these options! If there are any hard water deposits, let the vinegar solution sit for a bit while it tackles those spots before wiping.

3. Get the Drain and the Filter

The bottom of your dishwasher can get some buildup, so go ahead and clean that area of any debris. You don’t have to remove the bottom rack, but it may make this step a little easier. While you’re there, remove the filter and soak it in your favorite soapy cleaner for about 10 minutes before you rinse and replace it. Make sure to reference your manual before you take out the filter!

4. Get Rid of Grime

Make sure your dishwasher is empty and add a container with 1 cup of vinegar to the top rack. Run a hot water cycle and watch all the grime, odors, and grease disappear! Vinegar also kills any bacteria that may be floating around.

5. Remove Stains and Brighten

Once your vinegar cycle is done, sprinkle a cup of baking soda on the bottom of the dishwasher and run a short, hot water cycle. The baking soda will scrub away any stains and make the inside look all shiny and new!

That wasn’t so bad, was it? The longest part is waiting for the cycles. Virtually painless and you have a sparkly new dishwasher! Do you do anything special to clean your dishwasher? Let us know down below!

XOXO,
