It’s getting closer to Thanksgiving, here in the US, at least, and that means….turkey! It also means you may have a lot of company coming over to celebrate and give thanks. While you are worried about the turkey and the fixings (don’t forget the pie!), the last thing you’ll want to do is clean your entire home. There just doesn’t seem to be enough time! Lucky for you, we know a few must-cleans for company (and the rest you can leave for later):
Clean Your Bathroom First
This is probably the dirtiest room in your entire home, and it’s the one that will get most used. Grab your favorite green bathroom cleaner and rags and get to work! Don’t forget to scrub the inside AND the outside of the toilet, wipe down the counters, and clean the floors. You can use a mop if you’d like, but if you’re pressed for time, just get down on your knees and scrub with your favorite green cleaner.
Dishware
This one you may already have done, considering you’ll be spending LOADS of time in the kitchen cooking, but make sure you have clean cups, plates, bowls, utensils, and anything else you will need to eat or drink from. If you’re having children over and use separate plates and such for them, make sure those are clean as well.
Odors
Homes can sometimes just have a smell, especially if you have any pets. There are a few things you can do to combat this: you can burn candles, diffuse some essential oils (be careful around pets and small children/babies with these), sprinkle some baking soda on your rugs and vacuum up about 30 minutes later, or simply get to baking! Who doesn’t love to walk into a home smelling freshly baked pie?
Pickup Any Clutter
You know what I’m talking about. That pile of mail on the desk, those keys tossed on the counter, that pile of random bits and bobs in various places of your home. Take all of it and put it in some boxes or bins and store them in your closet. Don’t worry about organization at this time, because you don’t really have any to spare! But please put your keys where you normally have them so you don’t lose them!
Take a Last Look Around
Go ahead and walk around your home and see if anything stands out that you can deal with. Did you forget some clutter? Is some of that dust really noticeable? Take your favorite green cleaning cloth with you and wipe down some surfaces as you do your quick walkthrough. Don’t be afraid to move some more clutter, wash some dishes in the sink, etc.
