How to Declutter Quickly to Make Room For Your Gifts

The holidays are officially over (insert sad face here), and now it’s time to come home, relax and…. wonder where you’re going to put all the gifts you were surprised with! You thought you were pretty organized, but now you have no idea where you’re going to make room, or how to even make room! Don’t worry - here’s how to quickly declutter to make room for your gifts:

1. Remove All Rubbish

It’s easy to let rubbish pile up, especially if you’ve been hosting the holiday festivities. Clear up all of the boxes, wrapping paper, etc that may just be laying around. Remember to take out the trash, organize the recycling, etc. It’s amazing how much space can be cleared up by just doing this small task!

2. Replace the Old With the New

This one is pretty simple but can be overlooked: if you got a new or updated item, just replace the old one with the new. For example: if someone got you a new toaster to replace your old one, switch it out! Just remember to dispose of the old item in the proper way (this may even include donating your old items if they’re still working).

3. Toys, Toys, Toys

This one is for the parents out there. Have your children go through all of their toys and give them a box to fill up for donations. This is best done before the holidays, but no worries if you’re reading this now. They can still do this. It’s a great thing to do for the holiday season and it definitely helps clear up the clutter and make more room.

4. Get Rid of the Unneeded

The same idea for the toys tip above applies here. Give yourself a box and fill it with things you simply don’t use or no longer need. You will be surprised at how quickly it fills up! Personally, I know I donate of a bunch of clothes that I just don’t wear. This will quickly help to free up some space.

5. Sell Your Old Workout Equipment

Do you have some workout equipment just sitting there collecting dust (or is that just me)? It’s time to sell or donate it! There are a bunch of places to sell your used gym equipment online or in person, like online garage sale apps, the Facebook Marketplace, etc. This is the perfect time of year to start selling that stuff because people are wanting to buy it! It’s a win-win: you get to free up some space and they get to workout!

Of course you can spend a lot more time decluttering and organizing, but who really has time for that at this time of year? What are some ways you like to quickly declutter? Let us know below!

Have a Happy New Year! We will see you in 2020!

XOXO,
