Ah, touchscreens. Where would we be without them? You have one on your tablet, your phone, your smartwatch/fitness tracker, and sometimes your computer. They are an amazing piece of technology! But I bet you rarely have thought about giving your phone a good clean. I mean, it’s a phone, right? It doesn’t need to be cleaned often? That would be WRONG!
Your phone, in particular, is probably one of the dirtiest things you own. Think about it: you take it with you everywhere (for some of you, that may include the bathroom), you touch it constantly without being able to wash your hands, it floats around in your purse or pocket, you may even set it down on public tables or desks, and who knows when those were really cleaned last? Your phone collects germs like they’re going out of style! And sure, you could get one of those fancy gadgets that zap them with UV rays to disinfect it, but why spend all that money when you can make your own cleaner at home from green ingredients? Here’s how:

1. Turn off your phone and allow it to cool down
You should be turning your phone off at least once a week anyway to allow it to restart. I’m really bad at keeping up with this myself! Now you can do 2 things at once - time-saving hack!
2. Dust off your phone
Once your phone has cooled down a bit, get out a dust cleaning cloth with NO products on it. You want it to be clean. If you’re a glasses person, you can use one of your dusting cloths too as long as there isn’t any solution on it. An old t-shirt works too!
3. Make your cleaner
Get a tiny spray bottle, like the kind you would use for traveling, and mix 1 part white distilled vinegar with 1 part water, preferably distilled or filtered. It’s important to not use any other kinds of cleaning products on your phone, like glass cleaners or wipes, as they can harm your screen.
4. Clean your phone
That cloth you just used for dusting does double duty in cleaning your phone! Spray a light mist of your DIY spray on the cloth and wipe your phone down. Long sweeping motions work the best! DO NOT spray the cleaner directly onto your phone as it can drip and get into your phone.
5. Repeat with all your touchscreens
Use this same process on all of your fancy touchscreen tech! Not only will they be germ-free (which keeps you and yours from being sick often), but they will be all nice and shiny! I would aim to do this at least once a week.
Your touch screens can get gross, but they don’t have to stay that way! Your body will thank you for giving them a nice clean! Any tips or tricks to add? Leave us a comment below!
